The specialty coffee market in Saudi Arabia, particularly in economic hubs like Riyadh and Jeddah, has experienced unprecedented growth over the past few years. As local roasters scale up to meet the demands of discerning consumers, packaging has shifted from a mere containment vessel to a critical factor in brand identity and product preservation. For premium coffee beans, exposure to oxygen, moisture, and UV light is the ultimate enemy, causing volatile aromatic compounds to degrade and rendering premium single-origin beans stale.
In late 2025, a prominent specialty coffee roaster based in Riyadh approached Weihai Haodong Packing Co., Ltd. They were facing a severe operational bottleneck: their existing packaging, sourced from local trading companies, was failing to maintain structural integrity during regional distribution in high-temperature environments, and the built-in degassing valves were frequently leaking or clogging, resulting in premature staling of their premium product line.
The client required a comprehensive packaging overhaul for their 250g and 1kg product variants. Their technical and marketing requirements presented three distinct challenges:

Our technical team at Haodong Packing analyzed the client's requirements and engineered a custom, multi-layer composite structure utilizing a premium Flat Bottom Pouch (Blockbodenbeutel) architecture. This structure optimizes shelf utilization and provides a stable, rigid display that stands perfectly upright without sagging.
Material Science and Layer Specification
To replace their sub-par packaging, we deployed a high-performance three-layer laminate structure designed to block all environmental vectors:
Layer Architecture |
Technical Function & Specifications |
Outer Layer |
80gsm Premium Natural Imported Kraft Paper. This provides the exact tactile, uncoated organic texture the client desired while accepting high-definition gravure printing for complex elements. |
Middle Layer |
12-micron High-Barrier VMPET (Vacuum Metallized Polyester) or Aluminum Foil. This layer acts as an absolute shield against light, oxygen, and moisture transmission. |
Inner Layer |
80-micron Food-Grade Virgin Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE). This guarantees an airtight, high-strength heat seal capable of binding heavy contents under thermal stress. |
We integrated a premium one-way degassing valve directly into the upper third of the pouch. This specific valve allows internal CO2 pressure to escape seamlessly while completely blocking ambient oxygen from entering the pouch, maintaining internal oxygen levels below 1%. For user convenience and extended freshness post-opening, we incorporated an integrated pocket zipper (front-load zipper).

Production was executed at our advanced manufacturing facility in Weihai, China. Utilizing our high-speed rotogravure printing lines, we achieved flawless registration of the client's minimalist Arabic and English typography using eco-friendly, water-based inks.
Our internal quality control protocol subjected samples from the bulk run to rigorous testing, including: Burst Testing (ensuring the seals could withstand the internal pressure generated by heavy degassing), Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) Testing (verifying barrier integrity), and Drop Testing (confirming that the 1kg flat bottom pouches could survive structural drops from a height of 1.5 meters without rupture).
The entire production cycle—from final artwork sign-off to container loading—was completed within 15 days, meeting the client's tight seasonal product launch deadline.

The implementation of Haodong’s flat bottom coffee pouch with valve yielded immediate, measurable benefits for the Saudi roaster:
By choosing a BRC certified packaging supplier, the client successfully expanded their distribution into high-end supermarket chains across the GCC, secure in the knowledge that their packaging met international food compliance baselines.
